So here I am now writing a graduate blog as an Imperial College Biotechnology student (my course is the same as Biochemistry, just the third year options are different, so sometimes I say I am a biochemist which makes things a little bit less complicated). I guess you have a rough idea of who I am, if not read the Life at Bellerbys College blog or if it seems far too long (which may well happen if I have written too much or you are reading too slow) read the first and the last post – hopefully it will give you some feeling of progress (hopefully!) I was making.
For the first few days in London I still could not quite believe that I actually got into the Uni and even when the fresher’s week started (more about this to follow) it seemed like a sweet dream. But on the 5th October when the first academic activities began (yes, we do start that late!) I was issued with my college ID card and... it looked exactly like my old Bellerbys one (well, hopefully the photo was a bit better) – the same red fabric with white letters but now with different words written on it – Imperial College London.
At that very moment I realised that I am now an undergraduate student in a university which is 3rd in the UK and Europe and 5th in the world (at least according to some league tables). That made me feel so proud of myself, my department, my fellow students and the College itself.
A few days later I was on my way to lectures already wearing an Imperial jumper, Imperial T-shirt and holding an Imperial bag in my arms (do not forget my ID and some other Imperial stuff in my bag!). I was now a definite part of this sweet dream and felt very grateful again to all those people who helped me to get there – my family, friends and everyone in Bellerbys College.
Enough for an introduction I suppose - so let’s move on to the exciting stuff –the next post which will be entirely what is the Fresher’s week like and how to survive it is coming!
